Verb forms are the backbone of every competitive-exam English paper — and error-spotting is where the paper quietly takes its marks back.
The exam tests the same weakness from four directions: it blanks out a verb and asks for the right tense, splits a sentence into parts and hides one error inside it, offers four near-identical sentences where only one is grammatical, and asks point-blank for a past participle you may never have written. This course trains all four: 6 full-length practice tests, 100 questions each, 600 questions in total, built on 600 distinct verbs drawn from a fully audited 1,000-verb forms table.
How Each 100-Question Test Is Built:
Verb Form in the Blank (25 questions): Pick the verb form that fits the sentence's tense, subject and helping verb.
Error Spotting (25 questions): The split-sentence format — find the part with the error. Agreement traps (one of / each of / neither of + singular), "It is high time" + past form, modals + base form, tense consistency with time markers like yesterday and last night.
Correct Sentence Selection (25 questions): Four sentences, one grammatical. The confusion-pair ground: lie/lay, rise/raise, sit/set, hang/hung/hanged, born/borne, find/found, wind/wound, practise/practice, advise/advice.
Verb Form Knowledge (25 questions): Given the verb, choose its past participle (or past form), with misspelling traps and look-alike forms explained away.
600 Verbs, Met Once Each:
Most question banks recycle the same fifty irregulars until you can pass without reading. This course does the opposite: every one of the 600 questions is built on a different verb — no verb appears twice anywhere in the course, and no answer repeats from Courses 1-5 of this series. When you finish, you have genuinely covered 600 verbs, not 60 verbs ten times.
A Difficulty Curve, Not Six Identical Tests:
Tests 1-2 run on the Tier A core — the everyday verbs every paper leans on (begin, break, catch, choose, come, run, take, win, write and their sets) — while your formats and reflexes settle.
Tests 3-4 are the Tier B spelling-trap band: doubled consonants (stop → stopped, occur → occurred, admit → admitted), y-to-i (fry → fried, classify → classified), and the harder irregular participles (striven, forsaken, woven, sprung, shrunk).
Tests 5-6 retire the easy material entirely: rare literary irregulars at C1/C2 — slay → slew, smite → smote, waylay → waylaid, chide → chided, beseech → besought, gainsay → gainsaid, hew → hewn, alight → alit, shear → shorn, strew → strewn, tread → trodden — ending in a challenge final.
You can measure real progress by which tests you pass (80% to pass) and where your score first dips.
Every Option Explained — Not Just the Right One:
A wrong answer teaches you nothing unless you know why it was wrong. All 600 questions ship with a written explanation for the correct answer and for each of the three distractors — what the wrong option actually is (a present form, a participle without a helping verb, a misspelling, or a different verb entirely) — so you learn four forms per question, not one. The traps are built honestly: no distractor is secretly defensible, so elimination genuinely works. And the full 600-question bank was independently audited before publication — structure, answer keys, explanations and spelling-rule claims.
British Spelling Throughout, Exams in Mind:
Competitive-exam English accepts both conventions; this course consistently teaches one (UK) — travelled, worshipped, fulfil, mould, learnt — so you never confuse yourself mid-test.
What's Included:
6 timed, full-length practice tests (100 questions each, 100 minutes recommended, randomised question order).
600 written explanations for correct answers — plus 1,800 distractor explanations (2,400 in total).
600 distinct verbs across the four exam formats, from Tier A core to rare literary irregulars.
Spelling-rule training woven through every misspelling distractor: doubling, final-e drop, y-to-i.
Pass mark: 80% per test; unlimited retakes.
Lifetime access, including future question refreshes.
Take Test 1 to set your baseline, and Test 6 the week before the real thing. If you can pass the final test, no verb-form or error-spotting question can surprise you.
