Master FIDIC extension of time (EOT) claims and Delay Damages (liquidated damages) under the FIDIC Red Book 1999 and 2017, the two editions you will meet on construction projects worldwide.
The Works are late. Is the Contractor entitled to an extension of time? Can the Employer deduct Delay Damages, and how much? On a FIDIC contract, the answer depends on which edition you signed, and the 1999 and 2017 Red Books do not answer these questions the same way. Apply the wrong edition's rule and a valid EOT claim can fail, or a Delay Damages deduction can be wrong.
This practical FIDIC course works through Clause 8 of the Red Book 1999 and Red Book 2017 side by side, together with Sub-Clause 10.2 on Parts taken over. For each rule you see what each edition says, what changed, and what it means for your next decision on time, delay and construction claims. Where it matters, it also flags wording changed in FIDIC's 2022 reprint of the 2017 text.
What you will learn:
Set the time baseline: the Commencement Date, every Time for Completion and the Programme (Sub-Clauses 8.1 to 8.3)
Build or test an EOT claim cause by cause under 1999 Sub-Clause 8.4 and 2017 Sub-Clause 8.5
Apply the 2017 10% quantity rule and the rule that an extension of time (EOT) can increase but never decrease
Handle concurrent delay by what the Contract actually says, and know what it leaves to the governing law
Decide who pays for acceleration (1999 8.6 / 2017 8.7)
Calculate Delay Damages, apply the maximum, and reduce the rate for Parts taken over (1999 8.7 / 2017 8.8 and 10.2)
Why this FIDIC EOT course is different:
Built around real decisions: pause-and-decide exercises with worked dates and numbers in every lecture
FIDIC 1999 vs 2017 compared clause by clause, so you can work confidently on old and new contracts
A full workshop: one delay event assessed under both editions, from cause to EOT to Delay Damages
A final quiz of 10 scenario questions to test your contract management judgement
A downloadable Quick Reference sheet for both editions
About 41 minutes of focused video, with no filler, so you can finish it in one sitting
