Build your understanding of Prometheus with 120 original practice questions from Cloudpuz Academy. This course contains two different 60-question tests for learners reviewing Prometheus Certified Associate concepts. The questions combine operational scenarios, query interpretation and small numerical examples. Every question has four choices, one best answer and explanations for all options, including why the alternatives do not fit the stated situation.
Begin with observability concepts: choosing between metrics, logs and traces, interpreting spans, contrasting internal instrumentation with external probes, understanding pull and push collection, and dealing with changing targets. Reliability scenarios cover indicators, objectives, agreements, error allowances, weighted percentages, latency distributions and missing observations. These questions connect measurements to what users experience.
Review Prometheus architecture, series identity, labels, jobs and instances, collection intervals, scrape timeouts and rule evaluation. Configuration scenarios distinguish target relabeling from sample filtering, examine exported-label conflicts and explain the role of discovery metadata and external labels. Storage questions cover independent local databases, recovery logs, retention, remote write and federation, including the limits of monitoring data as an exact event record.
Practice PromQL selectors, regular expressions, empty labels, time ranges, offsets, fixed timestamps, rates, changes and counter resets. Work through grouping, vector matching, filtering versus bool comparisons, set operations and ranking. Histogram scenarios distinguish classic buckets, native samples and precomputed summary quantiles. Numerical questions include event rates, request ratios, mean durations and threshold fractions.
Instrumentation scenarios cover counters and gauges, units and names, bounded label values, cardinality, known zero-valued series, measurement placement and inexpensive metric updates. Learn to distinguish host metrics, external probing and translation from other monitoring interfaces. Consider collection freshness, exporter permissions, Pushgateway cleanup and the difference between a successful scrape and fresh source data.
Alerting questions examine pending and firing states, continuous for durations, stable alert identity and descriptive annotations. Review recording rules, grouping, routing, silences, inhibition and the different notification intervals. Dashboard scenarios address units and aggregation that hides local problems. The emphasis is on actionable notification and correct interpretation, not memorizing isolated terms.
The five-domain PCA outline on the CNCF and Linux Foundation product pages was reviewed in November 2026. Each test contains 11 Observability Concepts, 12 Prometheus Fundamentals, 17 PromQL, 9 Instrumentation and Exporters, and 11 Alerting and Dashboarding questions. These rounded allocations approximate the published weights. Allow 90 minutes per test; the 70 percent practice threshold is a learning target rather than an official score prediction. Core query and rule examples were checked with Prometheus promtool 3.5.0, while references point to official documentation. Check version-specific behavior in your own environment.
This course provides practice tests without video lessons or a hosted lab. Basic familiarity with monitoring and command-line tools is helpful; a separate Prometheus learning environment can reinforce the examples. Review uncertain answers, follow the references and consult the active official examination outline before booking. These are original supplementary questions, not real examination content. Cloudpuz Academy is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by CNCF, the Linux Foundation or the Prometheus project. Completing the course does not guarantee certification.
